Environments for Living
An energy efficient home can do more than help the environment. It can increase your home's comfort and durability. It can help save you money through energy-saving features that can add up over time. And it can even provide you with potentially greater resale value.
Evans Coghill Homes is now proud to be a partner in The Environments For Living program. This nationally recognized program provides a rigorous set of requirements for home builders who've made a commitment to go the extra mile for energy efficiency and home owner comfort. All of Evans Coghill’s homes that were started after July 2011, will be Environments for Living Gold level certified.
What is Environments for Living?
Environments for Living is a nationwide program backed by Masco Home Services that takes a systems approach to home construction incorporating the principles of building science. The program evaluates all elements of the home before construction begins in order to plan for maximum comfort and energy efficiency. During construction independent inspectors verify the home is being built correctly. Finally, before the home owner moves in, the home is tested to make sure it performs as planned.
How Does do Evans Coghill’s Environments for Living homes differ from Energy Star certified homes?
Actually, Gold Level Environments For Living homes qualify for the ENERGY STAR® label. However, the Environments For Living program goes beyond ENERGY STAR® by requiring additional features and techniques.
Why don’t conventional code built homes require the building science features of the Environments for Living program?
Building codes are generally designed to establish the minimum that a builder must do, largely in the interest of public safety. In contrast, the Environments For Living program establishes higher benchmarks for performance and includes advanced construction techniques.
What is the Environments for Living program’s “heating and cooling energy use guarantee”?
This is a limited guarantee from Masco Home Services on the amount of energy needed to heat and cool your home. Please note that the guarantee is on energy use, not cost, as local utility rates may fluctuate.
What is the Environments for Living program “comfort guarantee”?
The comfort guarantee promises that the temperature at the location of your home's thermostat will not vary more than +/-3 degrees from the center of any conditioned room within the thermostat's zone.
Heating and Cooling Energy Use Limited Guarantee* Masco Home Services guarantees the original homeowner that the energy used to heat and cool the home (as calculated in the account analysis) will not exceed the guaranteed usage listed on the front of the limited guarantee, subject to the terms of the limited guarantee. Since this is a limited guarantee of energy use and not cost, any reference to dollar amounts is strictly an estimate and actual costs will vary with the cost of energy.
Comfort Limited Guarantee* Masco Home Services guarantees the original homeowner that the temperature at the location of the thermostat in the home will not vary more than +/- 3 degrees from the temperature at the center of any conditioned room within that thermostat zone. If the home has a room that does not meet this limited comfort guarantee, Masco Home Services will reasonably assist your builder to identify the reason(s) for the temperature variance and reasonably coordinate with your builder to have it make changes or modifications to your home.
