Home are Changing - The Rest of the Story
The Wall Street Journal published an excellent article (Builders Downsize the American Dream 11/13/09) about how larger production builders are finding themselves needing to retool their plans and features for today's market. The article primarily focuses on what the builders are having to do in removing features (bay windows, fireplaces, additional staircases) from their homes.
We believe the challenge does not stop at whether to put a jetted tub in the master bath or not. The true challenge lies in how to design the home with the same number of bedrooms in much less square footage.
Evans Coghill Homes has been working within these parameters for years. All of Baxter Village's home sites are narrower and require efficient design. We know the challenge of getting all the rooms a home needs to have and make it fit within a certain footprint. Take a look at one of our popular plans (Alexander Home Plan). It is an adapation of our popular Baxter Village model home. It is 400 sq feet smaller and about $75,000 less, yet still lives pretty large.
