2014 MAME Award winning home, the Churchill, is built in Cheval and River Run

The Churchill Home Plan was awarded Custom Home of the Year by the Charlotte Home Builders Association.

The Churchill Home Plan has won again! We are honored to have the multi-generational Churchill Plan recognized as Custom Home of the Year in its price category.

The announcement was made at the recent MAME Awards hosted by the Home Builders Association of Charlotte at the Ritz-Carlton.

The Churchill was introduced during Homearama 2013 at Cheval and immediately began impressing everyone. By far the best feature was the way the outdoor living space flowed seamlessly into the family room and dining room. When the multi-slide pocketing doors were opened, the covered porch became part of the living space as if there were no walls between you and the outdoors. Standing in kitchen, you had and unobstructed view out to the fireplace on the back porch.

Others appreciated, the multi-generational nature of the Churchill. With a master bedroom and a guest suite on the main level, finally there is a home where grandma can come and comfortably stay for an extended time.

Some wondered where the formal dining room was only to discover the incredible everyday dining room. Quickly, they like many others, said “I can easily live without a formal dining room, if i can have this!”

Although the home is sold (and is being enjoyed by a family maybe like yours?) you can enjoy a virtual walk through the home in this video.

Thank you Charlotte Home Builders Association for the honor of Custom Home of the Year!

The Churchill multi-generational home plan is available to build in Cheval in Mint Hill and in River Run in Davidson, NC.

Home Builder Wins People’s Choice Award

People Choice Award ECH 900wWhen one sets out to accomplish something, one must often wait until the very end to find out if their efforts were simply trivial or meaningful. In fact we ask ourselves every day, “Are we on a path leading to our goal, or simply following the crowd?”

Working always to be the latter, it was ironic that one of our proudest moments this year came from a crowd! The amazing crowd of more than 10,000 people who attended HomeArama 2013!

AND this  near record crowd voted Evans Coghill’s Churchill plan the PEOPLE’S CHOICE WINNER!

Why is this award like no other? Because it comes from YOU! It says you connected with our home, and that our people created an experience that was memorable.

It meant you noticed the little things and approved of the big ones, applauding a carefully executed plan to showcase what is most important and vital to those looking for the perfect feel of “home.” It also means you loved all of the #coolstuff, and that it resonated with you.

We are humbled by this award.  We know that the hundreds and hundreds of hours so many invested in this endeavor were worth it.

However, it also gives us an opportunity to put credit where it is due and offer a huge, heart-felt thank you to all our vendors, trade partners, the Cheval developer – Paris Projects and other partners whose vision, talent and skill made this all possible.

Finally, it means that we have accomplished our goal, one wherein we strive to lead with integrity, listen with passion and execute with excellence.

If you were someone who voted for us, or took time to attend the show, thank you. For it is the PEOPLE of Charlotte for whom we build, create, and design. It is the PEOPLE who ended the show by saying, Evans Coghill Homes is our choice!

Multi-Gen Buzz at Homearama 2013

Three generations under one roof is multi-generational.

Three generations under one roof is multi-generational. 1 in 7 households in the US are now multi-generational.

At Homearama 2013 in the Cheval Community of Mint Hill, you are 100% guaranteed to hear about…”MULTI-GENERATIONAL LIVING”!

I know I have experienced more than a few blank stares as I’ve casually thrown out the term in the last few days in an attempt to describe a creative space in our Evans Coghill Home.

Major Faux Pas…Why coin new phrases that baffle those we are trying to please without explanation?

So…In an attempt to redeem myself, I thought it might be a good time to introduce a brief tutorial on the idea! Here goes!

Multi-generational living is NOT really a new concept. Many prior generations have lived in the same household.

However today, given the economic ramifications of the last few years and the growth of the aging population innovative home builders are proactively designing homes with comfortable space to house and maintain the privacy of three generations under one roof.

Generally, MULTI- GEN homes have private living, baths, bedrooms and sometimes even kitchens or separate entries built into the design.

There are no strict requirements to label a home “MULTI-GEN.”  However having the flexibility in a blue print to accommodate these desires is directing the newest floor plan designs.

If you are considering a Multi-Gen plan, thinking through laundry access, outdoor living space, adequate storage, zero-floor transitions, wheel chair access, and bath configurations can be daunting,  The good news is… innovation in this area is surging!   New ideas about flexible space are shaping many of our new plans.

This works for many families. It is a larger guest suite with a sitting area, large bath and large closet. Located in the home away from the living areas for privacy.

If more flexibility is needed, then this space provides for a kitchenette, separate living and bedroom space and a separate entrance from the outside. With this, grandpa could enjoy an independent lifestyle under the same roof as you.

Our desire at Evans Coghill is to listen to the needs of our home buyers and create homes that accommodate these needs.  Shaping and re-shaping space to make it both practical and livable.

Multi-Gen Living is the way many of us see our lifestyles evolving.  Be sure and take a look at The Churchill Plan at Cheval and see how accommodating this plan is to the needs of your family whether you are preparing for an aging parent or the return of an older child.

Listening and designing space to fit your needs is our intent.
