Rose are red. Violets are blue. We’re feeling the love this month, and your home should too! From quality family time to romantic date nights and everything in between,  love is always in the air in your home! It’s the perfect time to take advantage of the Valentine’s Day sentiments filling stores, social media and TV to inspire your home decor. Check out these clever ideas to help you fall in love with your home all over again!

Set the Mood Lighting. Dimming the lights not only really sets the mood, but also saves you money and energy by extending the life of your bulbs. Good-looking AND smart: the complete package! Install dimmers or replace some lamps with lower watt bulbs in the rooms where mood lighting is most important (bedrooms, dining room, etc.). A couple of candles are also a quick and easy way to replace that harsh, unattractive lighting.

Leave Little Love Notes. Take a trip to your local arts & crafts store for some chalkboard paper or paint. Create a DIY table runner, small picture frames or wall art designed to leave little notes and compliments for your loved ones to make their day and bring some cute V-Day flare to your decor. You’ll have fun with these simple little projects and can use them all year long! Even better, you’ll love getting some messages of your own! 🙂

Buy it Something Nice. It’s ok to spoil your home a little this Valentine’s Day with something pretty! Your home loves beautiful flowers too ya know! Brighten up the kitchen with new floral centerpiece or swap out those old curtains you’ve had for a while. Maybe you had something a little bigger in mind like that gorgeous vintage dining room table or oriental rug that you’ve had your eye on. The best part about buying something nice for your home is that YOU get to reap the benefits!

Add Some TLC with DIY Updates. Some simple updates are important to increasing your home’s value. Even if you’re not selling your home anytime soon, you’ll get to enjoy them until you do! Swap door pulls for more modern designs, paint your front door, replace the frameless bathroom mirrors, or swap out light fixtures and switches. These changes may seem minor, but they’ll really make a difference in how you see and feel about your home!

Let Music Fill the Air. It’s amazing how a little music can make any setting a whole lot more romantic.  Thanks to the wonders of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, it’s easier than ever to enjoy all your favorite love songs over a glass of wine in the kitchen, a romantic dinner in the dining room or even a relaxing soak in the tub! Between Google Home, Amazon Echo, Apple HomePod and more, you have your choice of technology to make it happen.  Learn more about these devices.

Give it a Spa Day. When’s the last time your home was treated to a deep cleanse? You know how good it feels to have a day devoted to your well-being, so imagine how you’ll feel by doing the same for your home? Don’t just grab the vacuum and focus on those carpets; hire a professional to give your whole home a thorough cleaning in time for your special Valentine’s Day plans.

Use these tips to make this Valentine’s Day one to remember, for both you AND your home. If you’re looking to make a move into a new home for you and the family, take a look at our available homes, ready for move-in today!

What’s Hot In The Kitchen – Other Than The Oven!

white-countertops-blog-2When it comes to home design trends, the kitchen more than any other room is the space that can look dated, and is consequently the room most often in need of renovating. At Evans Coghill, we strive to design kitchens that are timeless, while reflecting current trends.

The recent 2016 Builder Practices Survey, a national survey of homebuilders that captures valuable information on the product features included in new residential construction, offers an interesting look at what’s hot in kitchen trends right now.

Among the findings:

  • 64% of the respondents said they have granite countertops
  • 26% said their backsplashes are white
  • 60% have wood, raised panel cabinetry
  • 79% reported that their appliances are stainless steel

An accompanying Houzz survey asked homeowners about the colors in their kitchens, and 34% reported that white cabinets were their choice, followed by medium-toned wood finishes.

We asked Amy Alexander, owner of Ask Amy Interior Design, and our resident design expert here at Evans Coghill, for her thoughts are on the white kitchen trend. “White kitchens are great if they suit the personality of the homeowner,” she said. “White is classic, clean, and neutral, and still seems to be the most popular option. Design-wise, urban farmhouse is a very big look right now and white is easily incorporated with that. Softer grays or off whites have also been featured lately as well.”white-backsplash-for-blog
And what about the other elements from the survey? “Most of the new homeowner buyers that I am working with are incorporating upgrades like raised paneling on the cabinet doors and wood accents,” she noted. “And while granite is always a popular choice, I am also seeing more quartz countertops as well.”

If you look through photos of our kitchens at Evans Coghill, you’ll see many of these features, along with classic design and superior craftsmanship. Our kitchens are designed to last – from the materials to the features and finishes. And in our opinion, that kind of resilience is one of the hottest trends of all!

We were named Builder of the Year in 2016. Our homeowners have continued to give us positive reviews and survey results. Read more about what they have to say here.  Evans Coghill Homes builds new homes in RiverwalkSpringfield, Cotswold, Cheval and Southpark.

Evans Coghill Homes got some buzz when our chief marketing officer, Alan Banks, was interviewed for a story about media & marketing in February’s issue of Builder magazine.  (Click here to read the full story!)

The story discusses how a builder knowing who their buyers are affects both the media and the message they choose to promote their homes. For example, Alan talked about how he thought the demographic for our RiverWalk community was young buyers, so he was sure that the print ads Evans Coghill was running were having no effect on sales. Until some baby boomers walked into the sales office holding the print ads. Turns out, the older demographic was interested in RiverWalk – and they were reading the paper! So, Alan acknowledges, he will be expanding and re-mixing our media use in order to cover the wider demographic that Evans Coghill attracts.

The story also explores how Evans Coghill competes against re-sales by promoting the benefits of a new home as opposed to an older one. It also mentions how personalized customer service and the local real estate agents are a big part of Evans Coghill’s success.

Located in Charlotte, North Carolina, Evans Coghill Homes was formed in 2001 by Chris Folk and Alan Banks. Dedicated to building with integrity, passion and excellence, they have become one of the most respected homebuilders in the region. Evans Coghill builds new homes and communities in Charlotte, Mint Hill, Rock Hill, Fort Mill and Davidson, as well as infill neighborhoods in and around Uptown Charlotte.
