Here at Evans Coghill Homes, we are proudly celebrating our big wins at the 2016 MAME awards last month. Among our honors, our Charleston and Saratoga plans won Silver and Gold awards for Best Floorplan. The MAME (Major Achievement in Marketing Excellence) awards are given to members of the Homebuilders Association of Charlotte to celebrate hard work and recognize distinction in the home building industry.

Saratoga 2000w

The Saratoga plan by Evans Coghill was recognized as one of the best new home plans in Charlotte in 2016. With all the living space on the main level, the home offers open floor plan living without the inconvenience of steps. Available in Cheval and Springfield.

The Saratoga received the Gold Award for Best Floorplan under $500,000. This thoughtful ranch plan is perfect for growing families or downsizers. In addition to the open feeling and great flow, you’ll love the way all of the rooms are just the right size. As you enter from the front porch, the dining room and study are on either side of you, both featuring vaulted ceilings. Straight ahead is the large space featuring the family room, kitchen and dining area. The large doors in the family room open to the back screened porch, which has a fireplace.

The master suite is tucked away toward the back of the house, separated from the other two bedrooms for privacy. It includes a spa-like bath and a huge walk-in closet. There is a flex or bonus room just up the back stairs – the ideal spot for a home office or get-away space. There are options available for converting the secondary bedrooms into a multi-generational living suite. The Saratoga is available in Springfield and Cheval.

The Charleston home plan is Evans Coghill’s model home in Riverwalk. There is so much to love about the innovation of this home plan.

The Charleston received the Silver Award for Best Floorplan under $300,000.  Introduced in our Riverwalk community in 2015, the Charleston is all about relaxation and flexibility. Its impressive 2-story exterior is dramatic and distinctive, but we think you’ll love the interior even more! As you enter from the huge front porch, the study is to your left, and the kitchen ahead. The kitchen opens graciously into the family room, while the main floor master bedroom is tucked privately into its own wing of the home.

unspecifiedThe dining room located just off the kitchen can be converted to a guest bedroom, while the study can be enclosed for privacy or left open. The upper level includes three additional bedrooms, and a loft space that is only enhanced by the optional two-tiered porch. And the back yard feels more like a private courtyard due to the carefully designed orientation of the rear porch, master bedroom and garage. The Charleston is exclusive to Riverwalk.

We were named Builder of the Year in 2016. Our homeowners have continued to give us positive reviews and survey results. Read more about what they have to say here.  Evans Coghill Homes builds new homes in Riverwalk, Springfield, Cheval and Southpark.

Part of living healthier? Living in a walkable community!

Riverwalk-Thread-Trail_0065A recent article in the New York Times suggests that walkable neighborhoods aren’t just trendy, they’re healthier! A study published in JAMA found that the prevalence of overweight, obesity and diabetes is more than 10% lower in walkable neighborhoods!

At Evans Coghill, we love including walkability in our neighborhoods. In particular, Riverwalk in Rock Hill & Springfield in Ft. Mill are just made for strolling, jogging or gamboling.

The amenities of Riverwalk include the 3-mile Riverwalk trail that is part of the greater Carolina Thread Trail system and the Rock Hill Outdoor Center. Located on the banks of the Catawba River, the master plan for this 1,008-acre also includes a YMCA and athletic fields, a Town Center, River District, professional office space and residential, all thoughtfully connected and complemented by pedestrian and cycle friendly streetscapes and trails.

At Springfield, you can enjoy the health benefits of so many activities – from the 18-hole Springfield Golf Course that runs throughout the neighborhoods, to the swimming pool and the amenity center. Plus, the Anne Springs Close Greenway is just minutes away! This unique 2,100-acre nature preserve has almost every recreational activity you can think of… from mountain biking and horseback riding, to picnics and geocaching, canoeing and kayaking, hiking, camping and fishing.

Your fit lifestyle is very important to us at Evans Coghill, from our Environments for Living designs to our healthy amenities. Come see these incredible communities for yourself.

5 Tips to Design for an Open Floorplan!

Categories: Floor plans | Posted: May 27, 2016 | Comments Off on 5 Tips to Design for an Open Floorplan!

unspecifiedOpen floor plans allow many options, but sometimes getting the right look is a challenge. Here are some tips to help you bring it all together…with style!

  1. Color — Thread color throughout to achieve design continuity. Wall color, pops of color…a solid color scheme ties the open design together.
  1. Flooring — The best rule here is “keep it consistent”. Try to use as much of one material as possible in open areas. It’s best not to transition from wood flooring to tile, especially if the openings between rooms are large. Rugs are perfect for breaking up a room with a consistent flooring type, outlining specific spaces while adding a sense of sophistication.  This photo of our Charleston model home in Riverwalk is a good example!
  1. Art & Accessories — Use pillows and artwork to introduce new colors and patterns, but try to keep the accent colors consistent throughout, as well. Use a distinct light fixture to set a space apart from other “rooms” within the open plan.
  1. Furniture — Open floor plans need unity. Similar types of wood. Similarly colored pieces. These will serve well to tie the “rooms” or zones together. Bring furniture off of walls to balance the room. Have pieces of furniture to identify each “room within a room”. Place your sofa between the living and dining areas, similar to the way we did in the River Cottage plan in Springfield, to create a delineation. Consideunspecified-1r putting a credenza behind the sofa to help vertically divide the space.
  1. Window Treatments — Select curtains that you can pull wide open during the day to allow for the abundant natural light that the open design incorporates. Translucent, lightweight fabrics — lace, linen, sheer cotton — give a bright, roomy feel and still deliver privacy. Consider hanging draperies inside rooms, not just in front of windows, for a dramatic, stylish effect.
