Our team members are one of our biggest strengths here at Evans Coghill Homes. They’re dedicated and knowledgeable, but they are also very interesting people with fascinating backgrounds. Our newest addition, Kendell Burruss, is no different. She’s an amazing asset as a New Home Specialist at McLean, thanks to her fascinating background.

Where are you from? How did you wind up in Charlotte?

I was born here in the States but moved to France when I was 10. I speak French fluently, which helps me to connect more easily with those looking to move to McLean with similar backgrounds! After I graduated from college in France, I moved to Ohio where my sister was living, and worked at an in-house ad agency for about 5 years which ended up closing. At the time, my sister was a flight attendant, so I asked her what city she thought would work for me. She said Charlotte, so that’s where I headed!

How did you get started in the home building industry?

About four years ago, I decided I wanted to switch careers but also wanted to make this change a fulfilling decision. I like talking to people, getting to know their stories and helping others. I found I was drawn to real estate. So, I took night classes, got my license, and the rest is history!

What brought you to Evans Coghill Homes at McLean in Belmont?

Just last year, I was driving around the area, and came across signs for McLean EVERYWHERE! I was very much drawn to it and felt a strong attachment to it. I asked myself “How can I work in this area??” I always wanted to be a New Home Specialist, and eventually I wound up having a meeting with Alan (Banks), Camine (Pappas) and the team. They brought me on and I couldn’t have asked for a better-case scenario!

Why will people love the Town of Belmont?

It’s a very quaint little town. Sort of frozen in time but with a very millennial flair. The demographics vary, from one end of the spectrum to the other. You can go to the pub or have tapas. At night, it’s a lively little town. South Main Cycles, the bicycle shop, turns into a bar called Station! I also like The Jailhouse, a private bourbon and whiskey lounge set in Belmont’s old jailhouse.

What is different about Evans Coghill Homes compared to other builders?

The homes we’re building at McLean are amazing. I love being part of every aspect of the process, not just the selling phase. I really feel like part of the family. When I first went to the Evans Coghill website and started reading about the company, the thing that got me excited was their (Chris & Alan’s) story about how they met on a Habitat for Humanity build. Then they formed a company to help people and continue to make sure that a portion of all sales go directly back to Habitat for Humanity in Charlotte. I immediately felt that this charitable commitment showed the family side of company, the culture and what they really stand for.

What is the most rewarding part of your job as a New Home Specialist?

A home is very personal; it represents family and safety. Knowing that our buyers trust me to accompany them in this journey to find a home is so rewarding. Becoming a part of this important step of their life, sharing their stories, and becoming friends along the way.

What do you like to do for fun?

I like to travel, which is good since none of my immediate family is in Charlotte, and I have to travel to see them! I’ve just started to enjoy fitness, especially kettlebells! I like to have a good time with family and friends.

We’re so excited to have Kendell as part of the Evans Coghill team and can’t wait to see all the lives she transforms as our New Home Specialist at McLean. Kendell’s background, experience and sheer desire to help people on their new home journey will be one of the many reasons people fall in love with Belmont, McLean and their Evans Coghill home.
